Tony Predictions (and pink-haired Cinderella stepsisters)

All right everyone: It's Tony time.

I was reminded of this at work, actually—I'm fortunate enough to be able to walk past Radio City Music Hall three times a day, and when doing so yesterday, saw a poster alerting parked cars of the upcoming Tony Awards.

(Actually, I'm fortunate enough to lead groups of people past Radio City Music Hall, stop, and ramble about what goes on inside. It's a pretty sweet gig, being a tour guide.)

Anyway, let's see us some nominees.

Best Revival
Our options are Annie, Drood, Pippin, and Cinderella. I'm putting money on Annie, because, well, it's Annie, and you don't just let down a bunch of cute kids like that. (Here's looking at you, Matilda...)

Although, I am dying to see Cinderella, if only because recently Tokyo's Nakano (their version of Broadway) had an all-female production that was incredible and hilarious and ridiculous.

Cut straight to the 4:20 mark to see the stepsister's lament, or 7:20 for our first Act II glimpse of Cinderella herself (actress Ai Takahashi). The whole show is great, though, even their pronunciations. "SHEENDEREA!"

And yes, that stepsister has pink hair. It's Japan, what do you expect?!

Best Actor in a Play
David Hyde Pierce. Because. David Hyde Pierce. But, y'know, they're not asking for my opinion.

Best Actress in a Play
I'm gonna bet on Cicely Tyson in The Trip to Bountiful.

Best Actor in a Musical
We've got two noms from Kinky Boots (Billy Porter and Stark Sands) but I have to say, it seems like Chaplin's Rob McClure might take this one. How did I come to this conclusion? I don't know. Just go with it.

Best Actress in a Musical
Extremely tough. They're all fabulous. (*Tosses hands up in air, making crackers fly all across the apartment*)

Best Musical
It seems strange there are actually so few new shows to choose from this year. Kinky Boots marketed like crazy, and Christmas Story happened with not so much of a bang as a fizzle... and then there's Bring it On, which, uh, well, yeah, cheerleaders. I'm going to have to bet on Matilda then. They conquered the West End and now they're conquering Broadway.

Next: Matilda goes to Nakano! It should, right?
